What we look for in switchgear scrap
Not every lineup has resale value. Gear that has been through an arc flash, gutted for parts, submerged in a flood, or left open to the weather for a decade is scrap-grade, and we buy that too. The difference is that the price is driven by metal content rather than by what the equipment would fetch as functional gear.
Copper bus pays substantially more than aluminum bus. Breaker internals, silver contacts, copper control wiring, current transformers and the steel structure all contribute to the number. Weighing matters more than testing at this grade, so photos of the bus bar and the interiors are what we need.
Here is the important part: do not assume your gear is scrap. Sellers routinely scrap switchgear that we would have paid multiples of scrap price for, because breakers that look filthy are often perfectly reconditionable. Send photos first. If it really is scrap we will tell you and still buy it.
